The apostle Peter was in prison in Rome when he wrote the above verse. The King James’ translation of this same verse is: “The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.” This particular verse is used when many end times’ prophecy scholars want to prove that Revelation’s Babylon is not the rebuilt ancient city of Babylon but rather an allegorical reference about the spirit in the literal and physical Rome that was satanic, anti-Semitic, and antichrist in nature.
